The labor and delivery...
This story is an adventure that I will never forget, for the rest of my living life.
Nothing like the previous labour and delivery with my two boys, which was in so many words perfect. This third one was in a general Hospital which is first come no serve, service bases. It's who is ready then come in! I went in to get probe again to see if I was even dilated enough to be inside the room. It went quick, and doctor said. Go across the street in the park and walk you have two more centimeter to go, come back in the afternoon. Just like that. So we did.
We 4 the Hubby, my 2 boys and me were all there plus 2 other. Alicia and Juana. Alicia would be with me and Juana would be with the boys. The hubby got a room not far from the hospital for the kids and Juana. Alicia and I went to walk in the park. I remember it clearly. I was walking and talking and so nervous and thinking today is the day. We walk and walk and walk, and went back inside and yes I had pain and more pain. We went back in by four and got to be in the room by 5. The hospital is guarded with gunned man, but this is not unusual to me. Back home in the Philippines I see gun man also, they are security guards for peace!..
Alicia and I went back inside the hospital in maternity wing, which we previous went to. The wing was all for pregnant women and ready to push them baby out, literally.. No husband allowed no other people around with you, once you are admitted. I am a tourist and my Spanish can get by. I had all my prenatal care records and all what I think I needed with me. There were 8 beds in this rectangular room with curtains separating each ones, and all were occupied. I was the last one who came in. There was a bathroom and a door to extend on to other rooms. But before one pregnant woman in labour can get in the other room you have to be ready. I mean screaming ready! It was the craziest thing, it was so quite in there, except for the nurses and doctors coming in and out and the occasional moan of a woman in pain. By five thirty two young nurse came to me and started getting my vitals and start to hook IV. All of them inside including my fellow pregnant in labour women in their beds were so curious about me. I was the only person there spoke funny Spanish and mostly English. I was the star for the nurses who was trying really hard to practice their English. It took them an hour to get the information and explaining the hospital policy and rules, so to speak. There was one head Delivery Doctor who was older and a Pediatric doctor who looked to me were the bosses, the person in-charge and the rest were 20 to 24 year old apprentices to get their soon to be occupation, as required to graduate. Long hours in the hospital, one mentioned to me in this stage of their studied careers! I was amazed! They have to deliver dozens and dozens of baby before they can graduate.
Waiting and wondering what will be next? I have never been in any other Hospital except in the US during my boys delivery, so I have no clue. I stared at the ceiling and listened to everything including my pain..
PS. I have no picture to share with this post, but I tried to remember most details considering what was happening..
